International Women's Day in Lewisham

Writer: Katy BrownKaty Brown

International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It's a day when women are recognised for their achievements regardless of nationality, ethnicity, culture, political views and class.

The theme for this year is 'Accelerate Action'

This is significant as it highlights the need to move away from gendered stereotypes to bring us a step closer to gender

equality. Therefore, encouraging societal responsibility to build an inclusive future for women.

International Women's Day began in the early 1990 as part of the labour movement, fighting for fair pay and women's right to

vote. First celebrated in 1911, it remains important today to celebrate women's achievements and promote gender inequality.

In the Lewisham council, we have a few events to celebrate International Women's Day:

In honour of International Women's Day in Lewisham I have a few questions for our readers to think about.

  1. What does International Women's Day mean to you?

  2. What are some of the challenges women face today and how can we address them?

  3. What advice would you give to young women who are dealing with challenges in today's world.

Take action this International Women's Day!

Every small action counts, and together we can make a powerful impact.
