Today is Stephen Lawrence Day

Most of us know Stephen Lawrence's tragic story, that he was killed in a racist murder when he was only 18 years old, the fact that it happened in South East London and that the Stephen Lawrence Centre, is based in Deptford, makes it feel close to us in Lewisham.
This is the second Stephen Lawrence Day dedicated to remembering the lessons learnt through the experiences of Stephen, his family and friends and the impact that it had on the wider community and institutions. It recognises we all have a part to play in creating a better society.
"Stephen Lawrence Day is about the part we all play in creating a society in which everyone can flourish. It is an opportunity for children and young people to have their voices heard, make the changes they’d like to see and create a society that treats everyone with fairness and respect."

The Young Mayor Project is all about supporting young people to create the world they want to live in and working with others to make that happen. The past few weeks has shown how things can change for the worse and be a challenge for all of us, together we can make changes for the better.
Help the Stephen Lawrence Trust reach as many people as possible with their positive message about Stephen Lawrence Day by telling the world what a difference Stephen’s story has made to you. #BecauseOfStephen
