It takes a strong partnership to support young people to help them engage in local democracy and civic life which means there's always an unseen list of people who are helping! Meet our core team and Young Advisors who work with the Young Mayor and are part of the Young Mayors Project.
Lewisham Young Mayor &
Deputy Young Mayor. 2021-2022

Read our Manifestos which helped us get elected!
If I were elected for the Young Mayor of Lewisham, I would firstly introduce the Halo Code, which is a campaign pledge signed by schools and businesses to ensure that the Black community can have the freedom and security to wear their hair how they feel most comfortable in, without restriction or judgement. I believe this would benefit young Black people within our community, preventing them from being pulled from lessons or workplace, because their hair was seen as ‘distracting’. Furthermore, racism is an issue that has been ongoing for many years and unfortunately, it still is. It causes extremely negative impacts against people of colour, especially in today’s society; it affects young people physically and emotionally. To tackle this, I want to establish activities that are mainly focused on the ethnic minority and people of colour, but would also be inclusive to everyone. Lastly, young people are treated differently due to how they retain information, or in other words, how they learn in school. This causes students to feel alienated and insecure about learning. I’d like to help fix this by allowing those students to be able to have access to the same opportunities as the more able students.
